Development of a full-scale Monte Carlo (MC) simulation of the complete muon-tomography system and the inspected furnace

Simulation based on GEANT4: a toolkit for simulating the passage of particles through matter.

It contains a realistic representation of the blast furnace, with all its elements and a realistic muons generator, able to reproduce the energy and angular distribution of the real cosmic-rays.

The BLEMAB detector reproduced along with its response to the passage of the muons.

The output of the MC simulation designed to match the requirements of the reconstruction.

MC output weights, on average, 14 kB on disk storage per good event.

The simulation code has been implemented in the “CLOUD VENETO” a computing facility existing in Padova as OpenCMT Blast Furnace Simulator.

• A visualization tool has been implemented to allow the users to check and debug the MC (see figure).
